Gay Cruising Couple Experiences?

Depending where you are in East Coast, you should contact YCC (Yankee Cruising Club) in Boston, or KSA, Knickerboker Sailing Association in NY. Both clubs will welcome you. No need to own a boat, captains are always looking for crew for day sails or weeekends. This will help you gain experience, etc. Google them and get in touch. Looking forward to meet you both!

My husband and I face a similar situation because we are an interracial couple and I am African American. We sail the East Coast of the US. Homophobia and anti-blackness are real, as are microaggressions and physical violence. We encounter microaggressions pretty much everywhere we go, but as someone commented earlier, these are probably, sadly, something you are accustomed to managing. We’ve not (yet) been subjected to uglier varieties of the isms while sailing, but we do think about it and try to plan for it. Definitely be careful in Jamaica. Trinidad as well.

We are a gay couple. We haven't cruised the East Coast, but we have been out and about in the area around Vancouver BC for the past 15 years. We fly the small rainbow burgee. You'd be amazed how many people are attracted to what that signifies. And we're not talking other LGBTQ+ people... we are talking regular folk who figure that if you're gay you must be fun. Had many many great times with usually straight people saying hello and wanting to get to know us.

I have to ask - what perspective of being a gay cruiser are you looking for. Cruising is cruising regardless of your sexual preferences. The vast majority of people will take you for what you are and treat people as they find them - no more no less. All good cruisers do their homework on the cruising grounds they are planning on visiting be it national or international. Different cultures do have laws in relation to homosexuality and one must be aware of this but personally I dont see any issues that would stop you from cruising.
