You might consider cruising up and down the US West Coast, down to Mexico in winter, up to Canada and Alaska in summer.

Pacific Northwest. San Juan Islands in the summer. Nothing like it. Cold water but great seafood.

Re: Where and when can I find the perfect weather?

British Columbia, Canada seemed to attract Scots, as does much of the coastal Pacific Northwest of the USA, which is to the immediate south. I know my elder brother, who was raised in the Scottish Highlands, thinks it could be nice there, but he live is Pismo Beach, California, USA, and claims it is paradise. In my slightly different opinion, his mooring a nearby Avila Beach, is plain uncomfortable, but the options in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest of the USA are so plentiful as to be difficult to beat. I will not discuss places further south in California since we already have too many visitors who stay, but it is a wonderful cruising gateway to the entire Pacific basin, including the wonders on the other side of the equator if one ever needs to stretch beyond the Baja Peninsula, the Sea of Cortez, and the west coast of Mexico.

What is wrong with Scotland? Christmas Day looks like a good day for drying the washing outside in the breeze

True, but have you not ever had a sock fall off the line and break? After all the temp forecast could be off by a few degrees.

Surprised nobody said this, but San Diego. Done. Sunny and 72 deg with wind almost every day. Though Hawaii might rival it with better winds for sailing.

Southern CA USA south of Los Angeles. DelMar is a good place to start!!
Escondido has a nice harbor. San Diego Shelter Island is PERFECT year round.
Long voyage for the weather.
Perth Australia also has very nice winter. Never been there in their summer.
Least I forget MAURITIUS, their winter is perfect.
Place you never want to be in is Bandar Abbas Iran.

Re: Where and when can I find the perfect weather?

Well, for a less crowded migratory cruising venue, the east coast of Australia, from central Queensland down to the south coast of Tasmania offers just about what you have described. Summer in Tassie offers extraordinary cruising grounds, temperate weather with the odd storm and lovely, friendly folks. Around April it starts getting too cool for us troppos, so we go north, but a Scott would likely feel quite comfy all year round there. But if some sunshine was desired, a leisurely cruise northward up the NSW and then Qld coasts can be titrated to keep the temperatures just about where you would like them. There are a couple of major cities along the way if you crave such, but plenty of isolated anchorages, coral reefs, mangrove rivers and even a couple of big rivers that you can travel many miles up, even in a masted keel boat.

And when that pales upon your pallet, New Caledonia's delights are only 850 miles or so away for another temperate winter cruising ground.

But please don't tell anyone else, mate... wouldn't want it to get too crowded!

Jim

Sitting on the hard, waiting for bottom paint at the shelter island boat yard in the pouring rain, I beg to differ.
