Oh touchy tirant wants to force his will on all of us... You may be surprised that it is actually posters like you who ruin these threads with their insulting off-topic nonsense.

Guns have been aboard boats ever since they were invented. Not having a gun aboard is something of recent times only. Sailing without a gun has always been as silly as sailing without an anchor. I vote that mods act swiftly and delete off topic and insulting posts from these threads

If I started a thread about what butt-plug is best for marine use, you'd find out how fast the mods would draw a line. Yet guns get the pass...

Well, if dissent is your thing, go all-in. Race. Ethnicity. I'm anchored next to a boat owned by a _______. Should I move? Why do people from ________ never yield the right-of-way? Would you lend your dinghy to a ______?

Surely you can be entertained by other things than just gun trolls.

But, but... we're here for Don's entertainment! I want gun posts gone, you want my anti-gun-post-posts gone. What's the diff? Neither concern boating.

Re: Guns? Hunters?

They use two M-60s on the bows of the convoy escort vessels on the Bonny river, Nigeria, of course they are only up against AK-47s, and no RPGs lately.

Not entertainment. Passion. Guns are a touchy subject for me, sorry. I'm not alone, others here are equally passionate. But I'm the arsehole for wanting to keep such an irreconcilable topic out of a boating forum.

Once there was an answer to the OP's question, this thread should have been shuttered. So, yes please. Close it.

People who start Gun threads invariably have an agenda , I've yet to see a thread started by an anti gun advocate. Yes anti gun people people pile in but that's different

Hence these threads are or close to trolling threads.

Sweeping statements like "always guns on boats " is of course nonsense. Leisure boating is a very recent activity. Slavery was once common too , so what, attitudes change.

What is clear is certainly outside the US ( and a large group inside it ) do not want gun proliferation. The support from the general public for tougher private firearms laws , round ups , banns etc gets majority of public support in a great many countries

I target shoot I own several firearms including pistols , semi auto rifles ,etc I feel no inclination to start such threads advocating their proliferation.

And if is a total US preoccupation , you never see the same nonsense on other non US boating forums

The question really hasn't been answered. He wanted to know whether anyone had guns aboard, and if so, what we did "to pacify the gun legislation."

An interesting verb, "pacify." It could connote a process of quelling anger, or it could denote a process of military conquest. I have no idea how someone would pacify a piece of legislation. Are laws angry? Are they subject to military pacification? (I understand that things are different up there in Canada, but I was assuming we spoke the same language, other than for Quebec, of course.)

The first part of the question is one always avoided in these threads. Other than for the Luisiana powerboater who wanted to tell us, once again, about his secure gun locker, forum members once again avoided the question. For my part, if I have guns aboard I don't want to advertise that fact, and if I don't have a way to defend my boat I don't particularly want to advertise that fact either. I'm just about as eager to answer such a question as I would be if you asked whether I carry cash on board. It's simply not your business.

A few correspondents to this thread have maintained that the OP asked a reasonable question that deserves a reasonable answer. Really? What did you do to pacify the gun legislation? That's not even a sensible question, let alone a reasonable one.

There has been a fun bit of jocularity, of course. Read the thread title again. "Guns? Hunters?" At first glance, it seemed as if the OP was asking something akin to "Guns? Beneteaus?" This is, after all, a boating forum, and Hunter is a brand of boat. Some of us found this amusing, while others were grumpy from the get-go. The person in post #3 complained about inside jokes in gun threads. Sheesh. "Guns? Hunters?" was not an inside joke--it was just a goofy title.

The basic rule here is: garbage in --> garbage out. When the OP is poorly articulated, it doesn't make sense to expect articulate answers.

Re: Guns? Hunters?

How is asking in the Live Aboard forum about one's personal security a violation ?

I believe I will apply this quote to your childish rant.

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” Mark Twain

I concede, you win. You know next to nothing regarding the facts about weapons, even less about world history, and current world affairs regarding weapons. Keep your anti-gun beliefs, and opinions off of my boat. And I will keep my gun off your boat.

Your beliefs do not trump my beliefs about my security, nor are you in charge of what is ask on here.

If I decide to go to someplace where I don't know the laws, regs, local traditions, etc., I will darn well ask if I so desire.

So does anyone know if I can have my "Mossberg SPX-8 shot" on board in the great state of Louisiana ? How about Texas ?

The US/world attitudes on guns -maybe I wasn't clear. Do you disagree that there is a difference in the way the US views personal gun ownership vs many if not most other countries? Clearly this is a difference that guarantees friction, and is not likely to be resolved on a boating forum. So, yet another reason not to bring the gun subject up.

(Die thread die. Now would be good)

I have plans to use my sailboat as access to some great remote hunting grounds on the coast of BC. Bag an elk/sheep/goat/deer and then can the meat in jars, and you're to go for the season.

It wouldn't hurt if some people got a little more in touch with their food, and there's not many things more rewarding than bagging a big game animal.

felling an animal at 250 yards with a modern high powered firearm equipped with modern sights, good ballistics and superior loads , is "keeping in touch with your food" :bang head:

by all means do it, don't preach it.

I didn't say that. I don't even object to a legitimate gun/boat question that receives a legitimate answer. I object to when the gun thread invariably descends to a melee of those with passionate positions on guns, and the amused bystanders who egg/troll them on.

I have no wish to engage you or change you wrt the gun issue, I'm just tired of the same feud breaking out on CF like a rash every 10 days or so.

Boats not interesting enough?
