Question mast rake???

i have a morgan 41 and it has new forestay but when i restepped mast and started tightening everything the forestay is way loose? i wasnt there when new forstay was cut or installed in furler but would assume it was cut to same lengths as old one, so why would the length be so far off? i removed a shackle from bottom to make forestay 3in shorter and it still is loose after going more than 80% on turnbuckle the current rake measurment is over 8in difference from top to bottom. the mast base is in excellent condition and has not been moved im very confused

Re: mast rake???

Sounds like who ever your rigger is cut the forestay to long ! Did they pull the mast to do it ? Is there something wrong with the step ? I would go to the Morgan site and ask what your forestay length should be then measure what you have now !

Re: mast rake???

You need to talk to whoever made the new forestay... Fortunately too long is way easier to fix.

8" of rake does not seem too much to me.

I agree, it is a good idea to tape your turnbuckles before taking a rig down so you can come back to about the same position when you re step before final tuning.
