We have a name plate picture for the tank but I can’t find it and I’m away from the boat for another month. Have you called Catalina (727) 544-6681? They have been able to answer every question l’ve had so far.

Re: Catalina Morgan 45 Owners

I have had excellent help from the people at Catalina. The same person who manufactured the original cabin soles made our new cabin soles. They look fantastic. I don't have any specifics on the fuel tank other than it was 60 gallons. The pictures that were of the replacement project provide the details I needed. I am going to remove the custom fiberglass work and put in a new aluminum tank.

Re: Catalina Morgan 45 Owners

Hello I'm presently looking to possibly buy at 45 Catalina Morgan CC, it seems to check all the boxes I'm looking for. Specifically a CC and has a sugar scoop. I'm seeing two different drafts posted and I'd assumed it had a fixed keel but am I wrong in that assumption? Two different drafts mentions 5.33 feet and 9.5 feet.. I have no desire to have 9.5 keel so I'm hoping it a typo. The broker has not returned my Message yet so time will tell. Its a 1991 if that makes a difference.

Sailboat Data online seems to be incomplete. My Catalina manuals show the shoal draft version at 5'-7" and the fin draft version at 6'-7"

Re: Catalina Morgan 45 Owners

Hi. I realise this an older post. We have Maristo, number 50 in Hobart Australia. Nice job with the tank. Oddly, our fuel tank is in the bow, forward of the bulkhead. Is this custom fitting, or are others the same?

Re: Catalina Morgan 45 Owners

Hi. We have just fitted a diesel heater in our CM 45. It is a welcome addition to winter cruising. If you had the disassembled heater out in an open paddock, you could assemble the whole thing in half and hour, ducting included. In our boat, it took my wife and me a large number of hours, trying to fit things while having our head down in a hole. Not fun. The difficulty is caused by the maximum exhaust run of two metres. That dictates where the heater unit itself can be fitted. So it's a matter of fitting it where the exhaust run dictates, not where it would be easiest. There was a fair bit of effing and blinding involved during the job. Nonetheless, we now have an outlet in the aft cabin and two more in the main saloon. Toasty toes from now on.

Re: Catalina Morgan 45 Owners

Hello CM 45 owners.
We purchased our 1997, Hull #54, 6.5’ keel in Feb 2023. Mischief is currently in the USVI with plans to return her to the Southeast US coast fall/winter 2024.
Have done MANY systems upgrades and refits over the past year and look forward to a shakedown cruise in June.

For those who are not certain of the age and condition of their Edson, pull/pull conduit steering as well as engine throttle and shift cables we urge you to disassemble and carefully inspect/replace.

Our throttle cable parted while picking up a mooring ball last year……which got us to thinking about the other critical control systems…….getting to the point…….we found that the steering conduit that houses the steering cables was in terrible condition and had actually corroded apart where well hidden under the engine.

Edson says life expectancy of a PROPERLY maintained cable, chain and conduit installation is 10 years……..unless you’re in the Caribbean…….then cable chain 3-5 years. Ours appears to have been well beyond that.

Disassembly took 1 person about 2 1/2 hours including pedestal steering bearings and wheel brake.

Waiting on parts to arrive and we’ll complete by mid-June 24

Glad to offer advice once complete.

Fair winds,
MT

Cherp, our 1997 also has the fuel tank in the VBerth. I recently emptied and pulled it for a thorough cleaning and exterior inspection and coating. The data tag on the original factory tank indicated that it had a capacity of slightly over 100 gallons……my tank was very full when I pumped it out into 15 gallon drums and was surprised to find it only held approximately 75 gallons……..so if your planning a long passage be aware your tank capacity may not be as large as the data tag indicates. I also pulled the water tank">fresh water tank for cleaning and coating and the data tag on it indicated it had a 67 gallon capacity…….when I refilled it it would only hold a measured 50 gallons.
