Looking at a Morgan OI 33 and want to meet owners

Hi All.

This is my first post; I signed up here because my dream is to circumnavigate or at least get to Australia from American west coast.

I am retired and I take care of my 92 yo dad and 89 yo mom so not a high income to go for a boat, but I've found an Morgan 33 OI I may be able to swing and I'd like to find Morgan owners to chat with, get advice from.

I will be seeing the boat in a couple of weeks and I would like to go armed with some good knowledge so please help me if you can!

Hi.. Welcome to CF..
Never owned a Morgan so cannot offer useful info you ask for however, a glance at Sailboat Data shows a roomy boat with acceptable numbers for the downwind voyage your contemplating..
In decent condition I'd consider it a viable choice of boat..

IIRC, the OI series was designed primarilly for charter service in skinny waters. The make great liveaboards because of the interior volume. They are considered solid, but full of compromises.
I’d be more concerned of the condition since the fleet is elderly.

Same deal here, with age, condition is everything. When you find the boat that speaks to you. Get a good survey!

M OI 33 is probably the last boat to go water sailing">blue water sailing in.

Re: Looking at a Morgan OI 33 and want to meet owners

Thank you to everyone who contacted me...I am not going to pursue this boat anymore...it is not the right deal for me at this time!

I need to get the boat equivalent of a Cessna 150 and build time and experience with river and close in costal sailing for a few years. Now I am looking at a well kept, well sailed Ericson 32-2 which is a better fit for me!

I do appreciate all the advice and will be back if I get the Ericson as well as haunting the very good Ericson Website EVO.

Thanks you!
