I live on ROVER and am refitting the old girl for extended cruising/live aboard for two. Drastic upgrades of cabin, galley, hatches, deck, rig and dressing her up.
She was designed by William Atkin in 1936 and keel laid in 1968 launched in 1972. 29'10" LOA, 25'LWL, 8'9" beam, 4'10" draft, 17,000lbs, 525sf sail area (main and working jib, but has been re-rigged as a cutter). A few modifications from the original design: The boom was shortened from 18' t0 15', permanent back stays were added (keeping the running backs), forestay was made detachable (and could also be attached on the foredeck as well as the stem head), a third set of shrouds with spreaders were added to allow a sail to be flown on the head stay and an additional 1000lbs of ballast was added to the 3200lbs it was built with. This balanced the rig better and allowed for two different combinations of cutter rig as well as a sloop rigs and a 180% drifter, the extra lead helped too. the boat is quick in light air and handles the nastiest of seas. If the need should arise there is also a 33hp diesel.
