The setees are open to compartments under the cockpit. I have no hatches so these stay dry. Also I have no inboard so there is a lot of space to store heavy things under the companionway steps. The original owner added the sides to shrink the size of the companionway, presumably to make it safer if/when pooped. I wasn't sure about that at first, but have grown to appreciate it.
