The block for the oar lock is made of three layers of 1"  dense plastic lumber called Trex, through-bolted to coaming. The use of Trex is experimental for me. I have used it for other applications where I would have used a block of wood before and so far it is great.

    That looks like a good setup. I lashed the oar to the winch, but the lashing tended to get sloppy. I did find a single oar rigged like that was more efficient for long rows than sculling the oar over the stern. A makeshift Yulah worked pretty well, but I had a lot of wear on the oar.
