Picture 9 of 12 from Album Destiny
Destiny interior before the roll over. 2,500 stiffening horizontal strips to strenghten the hull for impact from ice or wood. The frames are at 400mm spacing, 6mm thick aluminium below the waterline. All the tanks form a double skin in the hull, you can see the access panels by the lights. Welding inside the hatches was so much fun....The huge central web frame is for mast support (keel stepped), equally huge frames take the chainplate loads down into the structure. Unusually we also have integrated lifting eyes, allowing the hull to be lifted by a container crane, Mast up. But also useful in a normal boat hoist when we use a short slings and 5 ton shackles, that way we have no straps rubbing on our paint work or obstructing when we are antifouling. All around win, win. Every boat should have them.
