    Good morning,

I used a PYPILOT controller to drive the CPT.

The CPT box on the pedestal has a motor and some control circuits. I disconnected the motor from the control circuits and wired it directly to the PYPILOT current drivers.

You need to take the cover off to get at the motor leads, not a ton os extra lead available but doable. And if you are careful you can restore it to the original condition if desired.

BUT you could do the same thing with other control heads. Say for example the Pelegic model sold by ScanMar.

The problem with Pypilot is it is a one man show and he lives on a small sailboat. He has been helpful but that could stop at any instant. Scanmar is a real company.

    Hello Hpeer:
You posted a comment on looking at modifying a CPT autopilot to use PyPilot:

"I’ve been playing with using PyPilot as the controller vs the older version control head. I’d like to have a GPS heading vs a magnetic heading. I’m optimistic but still need to do some more work." (03-07-2019)

I have an quite old CPT that functions rather poorly in anything but calm water conditions under motor and have been kicking around the idea of such a conversion.

I would love to hear of your experience and approach if you carried this project further.

    Cheers
