Most of the State marinas have waiting lists you can get yourself added on. I am still on 2 of them and have been waiting for 2 years... I love the CGSC though and would not want to leave. Wonderful people and a perfect location.

It did not work, but another thing that I tried was using google maps to find homes near where I wanted to be that had a slip but no boats, then looked up property records for the homes and used that information to find the people in LinkedIn. Then wrote them and asked if they rent out their docks...

As you can probably recognise, it is almost impossible to get a dock, mooring ball, or slip down here in the Miami area via the normal channels. The last option is to just anchor. Many boats are anchored outside of the Sailing Club I am at. I have heard of one boat that sunk though under weird circumstances and some things were missing when the owner arrived.

    All the best,

    William

    Hi Corbin,

Sorry for the 2 month delay. I do not look in here too often.

From what I found out when researching way back when, offerup and craiglist can be helpful. My back-up plan was to keep the boat up in your area as I was able to occasionally find private slips on rivers. Bridges were of course an issue with a sailboat and how LONG it would take to get from the slip to the ocean.

I used a bit of a strategy that worked out in the end. It was complicated and involved getting friendly with some people who work at a few marinas. Then I bought a boat someone was selling at one of those marinas and asked my new contacts if I could just keep the mooring ball; although that is usually not allowed. Then sold the boat for one that works better for me.

    continued...

Hi - I'm in your position from last month, looking for a slip or mooring in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I have a 48ft sailboat and I'm not familiar with the area. Do you have any tips? Are there other mooring balls available where you are? How did you find that one?
    Many thanks,
    Corbin
