The best time for sailing in Maine is August/September. The Spring and early summer has a lot of fog. While radar and modern nav tools make you safe, no way do I find sailing in the fog "fun".

If you're bringing your boat up from the South and want to return it, you start to get some high pressure northwesterlies in late summer which makes the trip home easier. The prevailing southwesterlies are why they call Maine "Down East". Easy to get to, but you've got to be more calculating on the trip home.

If you decide to head this way, give a shout. I'm happy to provide more specific info.
