I haven't done that trip so don't know. I would have thought it would be leave Capetown just after New Years and stick on 35 South all the way over. Landfall either perth or go straight through to Melbourne or Sydney.
I think the big mistake would be to head further south than 40 degrees. Who needs to be cold and wind worn?
