I do not follow the Forum much any longer because of the political BS and the irrelevant posts at this point so I did not see your inquiry until today. In any case, the jack we had installed in our M700 was a simple earphone jack that was wired (by our technician, Steve at Jaytron Electronics) to the speaker wiring at very little cost. With this one can plug in a cable that can likewise be plugged into the microphone jack on one's lap-top PC with which one can receive and decipher WeatherFax broadcasts if one has one of the WeFax programs on one's 'puter. It works but it is awfully slow compared to what is available at modest cost these daze! An InReach for example.

    N'any case, good luck!

From your comment on https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f13/icom-ic-m700-any-good-152074.html ... ya, I know like 5 years ago. Some one posted a youtube video on Furuno Radio Fax so I googled it and came up with the Cruiser's Forum. Anyway, I have an Icom-700 SSB ... you said the only modification you did was a jack on the front to the mic on the laptop. What did you connect to internally? You're telling me I do not need a modem to get weather fax? That would save a ton of money. I know I need one for email, but I don't plan on using email at sea.
    Thanks
