My wife and I are in the process of buying a Aussie built and registered sailboat and I came across your thread about removing it from the Aussie registry and reregistering with the USCG.

We are looking to do the same thing and I have a couple questions.

Did you have to physically mail everything back and forth with the Aussie government or was there a way to do it electronically? How long did it take for them to process the de-registration and send you the proof of removal document that you needed to federally register with USCG? When you registered with USCG did you provide the bill of sale and removal document from AMSA? Does the removal document take the place of the title as far as USCG is concerned?

Thanks for any info you can share. I know you did this a few years ago, but we are having trouble figuring out how long this process will take and are a little uneasy about deregistering and reregistering a boat while in the Carribean.
