I want to learn to sail. I'm 37, a former longline deckhand in the pacific (oregon coast), ICU nurse most recently. I don't know how to sail but I could put up and shut up to learn. Any advice or need?

are you in full lockdown there too? in my town, people who are 70+ can call to get on the waiting list for the jab... sounds promising, huh (insert ironic smile)!!!
how are you doing? can you get out for a ride? we cannot go but a little ways from our homes. haven't actually put my place on the market yet, but, one thing is for sure, i've never been so fed up with the propensity for inertia here. hope you are well! wolfie

I'd not seen a 'behind the mast furler' rig previously Boatman while I believe his logic was ease of mainsail deployment as his wife (who he generally sailed with) was also quite elderly. I didn't see it in action on any sea trial, and though it does seem sensible in some respects it does appear to be a heavy boat circa 21 ton fully laden to have such a rig?

Biography

I am an ex Royal Navy seaman (TAS) and have been sailing since 1965 when I learnt to sail in the navy’s 27ft Montague Whalers and 32ft Cutters. Over 80000 miles of cruising etc since then
I’ve completed 3 solo West-East trans-Atlantic's since 2001 on boats from 30ft to 37ft. I am a freelance delivery Skipper and can supply crew if needed.
