Hello Dockhead. I am currently in Spain on my sailboat. I have a friend who is a professional marine engineer and he can fix, fit, install or even just advise if you like, everything having to do with a boat. He is the only person I allow to work on my boat (other than me). He is extremely honest and would provide you with constant updates and photos of any work he does. He has a loyal following. He is located near Cartagena on the Costa Calida. There are a couple of marinas in the area, both in Cartagena and in the Mar Menor (slightly north) that could pull the mast and he could arrange for that and do any of the work you want done on the boat. He can rebuild an engine or generator and install any of the electronics and rigging as requested. He has sources for quality rigging locally at a fair price. If you are interested, please reply with more contact information and I will forward it on to him.

Re: U.S. to close.. your post #1880

'I have been studying Minnesota, which is interesting to me since this state is largely settled by Swedish and Finnish immigrants, and has climate and demographics and culture a lot like the Nordiccountries. There is a lot of information about pandemic measures on the Minnesota state government site, and it looks pretty good to me.

So what's the actual deal?'

They are too close to North and South Dakota. I know one family that live in Southern Minnesota, they visit back and forth to Fargo almost weekly for the last while. Three of the family have had COVID 19 so far!
Best wishes

Hi Dockhead,

You are never going to be able to avoid the climate change brawl because cruisers are a group of people who take far more interest in the climate than the non cruising population. I tend to the opinion that it's because so many of us spend so much time experiencing and responding to. You seem to like colder places, last year was the first rime since 2004 that I have been out of the tropics, Ann and Jim go to the coolest part of Australia for the summer and migrate to the near tropics most years. And I'm sure we could find many other examples among the contributors to the Forum.

Dockhead,

So, no EU resident can be on board a no-VAT-paid foreign registered boat while in EU waters?

What is your understanding on this?

Thank you.

Dockhead,
I believe you are friends of Carsten and Vinni. I don't subscribe to the sat. AIS and haven't seen anything since 7/14. I did get one post short probably over a sat phone?
I'd like to know they are safe and sound.

I have a question about in mast reefing. 2018 Selden Furling mast. Is there a way to haul out the main sail to a desired reef point without the whole entire sail having to come out and then pulling it back into the position you require? The mast does have a ratchet switch but needs to be in the open/on position to allow the sail to come out.

Dockhead,
Do you know Keri Pashuk ? I've been watching your high latitude stuff yearnings which is why I ask. Greg Landreth and Keri Pashuk are a H&W team. See [https://www.northanger.org/en/whohow.php]Northanger - Expedtioning elsewhere . Never met them but we were their sponsor in a minor way, and we know/knew both climbing and sailing. Maybe they are a place to seek disinterested advice. regards, david + pp
