1962 Columbia 29 MK 1, hull #37
A few shots and links for enthusiasts of the first Columbia. Mine is hull #37, built in late 1962 by Glas Laminates in Costa Mesa and delivered January, 1963. Right after commissioning the owner sailed her to Santa Barbara and she has been cruising the Channel Islands ever since. This one was not built to accommodate the optional inboard engine. She has a well designed for a Seagull outboard. These boats, especially the early lighter models, have become rare, but they are, in my opinion, the finest of the old school 60's 29s. I really like the Tritons and Albergs, but there is something special about these S & S designed Columbia 29s... it is the MORC design over the CCA…
