In a nutshell you need a blue water boat that is equipped to sail in blue water. Then the trip specific costs like: $1,000 min travel for just the Captain. A Captain’s fee will cost something like $100 - $300 per day. For $100 a day you may or may not get your boat back at the end of the trip. Food will run about $10 - $25 per person per day. You will need 2 people, want 3 people and 4 are better. Fuel will be something like $1000. And the list goes on and on and on.

I would suggest the Gemini for the following reasons: There are so many that there is a well established depreciation history, making it easier to project your expenses. At 14' beam vs. 16 it is far easier to truck in. The centerboards kae the boat a bit more weatherly (can sail closer to the wind) and a bit easier to get off a grounding situation. Being less expensive there is a better chance someone will go out and get one for themselves, which would promote even more interest. Outboards are an advantage especially in a freshwater environment becasue salt water is thier greatest threat. You could see 2000 hours on a Yamaha in fresh water. But out-board equipped Geminis are somewhat rare. Fortunately, they are also a little cheaper. Try to find a well kept 3400.
