When the Aerogen 6 is putting out, the voltage should not go up above the regulated level or you will boil your batteries. The voltage registered has nothing to do with the amount of current output. At forty knots of wind, you will be producing twenty amps of current with the excess current going into the dump resistors. The fact that the dump resistors were humming means that more current was being produced than the safe acceptance charging rate of your batteries. I carried a DC clamp on amp meter that I put over the positive wire coming from the wind generator. I typically would get 15 to 20 continuous amps of current in winds that high. I never was concerned about the voltage unless it went above the regulated level. That meant the voltage regulator wasn't working if the voltage rose above the proper regulated level when the wind was blowing. If your dump resistors are buzzing/humming, there is plenty of current available for your batteries.
