Nice talking to you too. In most northern areas the weather does not permit live aboard very often, such as North Atlantic, Baltic and North Sea. Even along the coast of Northern California it gets very cool. Up in Haida Gwaii, coastal BC, and southern Alaska we have the warm Japan current which keeps sea temps in the 40s during the winter and that makes a big difference between living on the water and living on land. It is actually a bit easier on the water than say inland away from the coast.

    Anyways, see you around too.

I have an ITR Hurricane II hydronic central heat and domestic hot water system for really cold days and nights, as well as a small coal heater in the saloon. It's really not so bad on the boat, compared to going ashore and to work. One gets acclimatized I suppose--i would probably have a hard time in a hot climate such as you have.

Deer mostly. Up in Haida Gwaii, deer and elk were introduced species and have had, along with beaver and racoons, had negative effects on indigenous species of flora and fauna on the islands. The elk have not expanded the populations as much as have the Sitka mule deer which are considered something of a pest and damaging to habitat.
