Hello. My name is Michael. I am a fellow Taswell 49 owner, from Portland Maine. We just got our 49 this year and have much to learn. I'm writing because I saw (somewhere?) that you had inquired about removing the rudder mount from the lower end of your skeg. It mentioned drilling out rivets, I think. Anyway, a storm blew our boat into shallow waters and the rudder is damaged. One of the things that happened, was that a metal section broke from the same piece you were looking at removing from your skeg. The metal piece, which is the aft-half of the rudder post retainer, is held on by four bolts that point from stern to bow. I was thinking, you may not have to grind out those rivets. I would be interested to learn how you are faring and would offer to keep a line of communication between us. My email is [email]sangre331@gmail.com. I hope your projects are working out for you. Mike
