You should be ashamed of yourself. You don't deserve to be a member of this great community. You are a disgrace to humanity. When your boat sinks and/or gets damaged I will be having a beer to celebrate your misfortune. Pay up and repair some of the destruction that your name has suffered.

Stephen Briggs -just do the right thing and be a man and pay the man.

It is right and lawful to pay debts that you owe. The boat was older and appeared to need work from the start. A long voyage places major strain on all parts which is why real cruisers replace worn parts and carry plenty of spares. There is no indication you did either. The list of repairs needed is rediculous! You have a USED boat.
Your husband sailed with the captain so if there was a problem you should have paid the captain for the work he did to that point and find someone else. Since you did not it was your acceptance of his skills your insurance company accepted him as well. Then after completing the delivery despite the boat breaking down numerous times and his repairs enough to finish the job- NOW you refuse payment! This is unfair, unthethical and I'm sure unlawful. You are inexperienced and have no idea what reasonable use is on a voyage. You need to take the messages to heart from experienced cruisers, pay what your captain is owed!

Terrible treatment, in the end you'll get what you deserve for your dishonest behavior.

Pay up, so you can sleep at night. Even if that list of damages were 100% legitimate which is is blatantly not), it would be small change for parts + labor after a 17K+ mile trip. Hiring a delivery captain does not mean you are entitled to a wear-free, problem free boat upon delivery. Boats break! How much are you compensating this captain for repairs made en-route?

Just remember, that a few years from now, after you have sold the boat you obviously are over your head with, you will realize how badly you behaved. Or fix it now - it is not too late to make this right.

As a former delivery skipper and married to an Australian, we are both appalled at the treatment you have dished out to Phil after what he went through getting your vessel back to you in WA. I'm afraid you have 'busted your pick' with the cruising community generally and Cruising Forum members, in particular. We wish you both the worst of luck afloat and ashore.

What don't you get re being an honourable person? Have you no self respect? You can afford to hire a lawyer but won't pay the Captain his honest due. You sicken me.

    Cheers!

If you expect that a boat can go halfway around the world, have no wear and tear and need no repairs along the way your are sadly mistaken. You should know better with your previous sailing experience. Get with it - pay the delivery captain for his time and reimburse him for any repairs that he paid for. You have just written yourself out of the great sailing/cruising community out there. Wake up!
