I'm wondering if you have an original mast? If so is it a Swan built mast or a mast made in England? (I'm not near my boat and do not have the mast name and serial number in my notes) Lars tells me these masts were only on the very early boats and if you boat has an original swan built mast it may confirm mine as #5. It has a triangle shape name plate with a name and serial number on the from the mast about 3 feet above the deck.

I have looked on many of the wood panels and found no number such as 5/36 on any of them.

I have not been doing much on Cruisers Forum for a while. Thanks so much for the reply about the emergency rudder. I'll reply to it on the thread.

On the other hand I have been trying to figure out the Hull number on Black Rose. I have not been able to find anything on board that identifies the hull number and the old aluminum plate is long gone.

By looking on SS Swan 36 list. I see hull numbers #5, #11 & #12 are the early numbers missing. I have emailed Lars a lot to figure it out and he tell me it appears to be a very early boat. There is a thread " 1968 Swan 36 Hull # " Started "Sept 10,2010" It turns out I have an original mast made in England before Swan started making its own masts (I thought it was replaced at the time of that thread). It now has a roller furling boom and the original boom was also the old hand crank roller furling that was available from Swan. I still have some of the parts on board.
