    Biography
My wife and I have spent the last several years sailing the Pacific Northwest Coast from Seattle to Glacier Bay. Wonderful area.

We meet a lot of sailors who think you cannot sail in that area because of the fickle winds. In fact, we sail about 2/3rds of the time - you just have to understand the way the weather is affected by land in this region. The Race to Alaska people - R2AK - prove it can be done fast (under 4 days)!

My wife, Marilyn Johnson, wrote a practical book about sailing in this area: "Taken By the Wind: The Northwest Coast". You can find it on Amazon at https://amzn.to/2zqgiIX. It's not about anchorages, or sailing techniques, and it's not a memoir - it's a guide to how to use the winds that do exist to sail, not motor, in this area.

It's had some nice reviews, including this one from Good Old Boat: https://tinyurl.com/TBTW-GOB

Why do so many sailors motor most of the way from Seattle to Alaska? Because they don't have this reference book: "Taken By the Wind: the Northwest Coast". Find it on Amazon.
