OCharts incompatibility 5.9.2

I experienced a hard drive failure while cruising on my nav computer. I just happened to have a spare SSD drive on board. I swapped this out and installed Ubuntu Linux, which I had been meaning to do anyway.


Ubuntu is a pretty steep learning curve but I managed to get O installed, but the problem I have is that the OCharts plugin is incompatible and crashes O. I find no other version of the Plugin.


I did not choose 5.9.2 -- is that a beta? I thought I installed only the ppapencpn/opencpn which I thought only had stable versions.


Any advice?


If the problem is the OpenCPN version, how do you change that? The method of software installation in Ubuntu is fairly baffling to the new user.

Update:

I managed to remove 5.9.2 and install 5.8.4 but I still have the same problem.

It says the O-Charts plugin is incompatible and will be uninstalled, whereupon O hard crashes.

Maybe there is an alternative download for the right plugin?


Also, I don't see the Logbook plugin, in the plugin catalogue. Does this not exist for the Linux version of O?

I have O 5.9.2 on ubuntu jammy, with o-charts plugin running. there is also the logbook plugin in the plugin catalogue.
Perhaps try to uninstall your o-charts plugin first, update the catalogue and then reinstall.

OK, thanks. I'm also using Ubuntu Jammy. See nothing of the kind in my catalogue; will try again.

So I've uninstalled OpenCPN again and reinstalled it. 5.8.4.


When I refresh the plugin catalogue, it says "catalogue updated successfully", but the only thing I get is:


O-Charts
Dashboard
Chart Downloader
GRIB
WMM
Engine Dashboard
and S63.


No other plugins there.


When I uninstall O-Charts, it says success, but the uninstall option persists.


When I try to install it again or reinstall it, I always get the same message -- "this software is incompatible and will be uninstalled". I makes no difference whether it's a clean installation of all of O after uninstalling, whether it's a safe restart or regular startup of O. O crashes right after I get that message.

OK, so I uninstalled everything yet again and installed yet again, this time using FlatPak. This gave me 5.8.4-3, whatever that is, and it has the full plugin catalogue.


This appears to have solved my problem.


I would ask the developers however to have a look at what is being distributed for Ubuntu through the APT method.
