Have you been given reason to believe there is no room to negotiate? It's still a "buyer's market" and I know some people are just wanting to get rid of their boats. It's costing them money every single month to store it, maintain, etc. Think about an offer that would let you add what you need.

What she said. The worst thing that can happen is that you tick them off, and have to keep looking. When buying a boat, if you haven't ticked a few brokers/owners off, you haven't been shopping hard. The single most important rule of boat shopping: Never, ever, NEVER fall in love with a deal.

Some of your items you will end up doing on most any boat you buy, that's been in brokerage for a couple of years. Yes, you will spend $23K, and still have a $100K boat - but you aren't planning on putting $23K into it and selling it, are you? ANY boat of this size will take $20K to get it ready to go cruising.

I feel this boat has great bones and could be a great platform but if I’m going to sink $100k into a boat, I'd like to have some extra gear and have it at least 70% on the way to being a boat we could use for the job we will expect from it. "Marina Queen" is the only thing that makes sense to me... It's a capable boat that's been sitting around in marinas all its life. It's probably in good condition even more because of that, however I just can't find it in myself to endeavor on such a huge refit on our first big boat purchase.

Here's a list of what I think the boat needs:
  1. Dingy: $1500
  2. Outboard: $1500
  3. Windlass: $2500
  4. Solar Panels: $2500
  5. Rear dimini or arch for Solar: $4000
  6. Storm Sails: $2000
  7. Anchors and Rode: $1500
  8. High output Alternator: $1500
  9. New Battery Bank: $1000
  10. Survey/Haul out: $1500
  11. Inverter: $2000
  12. WiFi booster: $300
  13. Tool & Equipment: $1500
TOTAL: $23,000 just for what I know now... i'm sure another $10k is to be expected. Then i'm looking at a $130k boat that's probably now worth $110k.

So offer them $99k - 23k = $76,000, and tell them you want the dinghy and outboard!

What was the result of your looking at the Morgan 44? I am also looking and would like to compare notes.

Less than 6'4" as I am 6'4" and had to hunch throughout the boat. I guess it is 6'3". I can stand straight only at the compainion way.

Thanks for the info. I'm 6'6" so it would be a bit of a squeeze. So far the Endeavour 42' CC is the only one I've found that I don't have to duck in.

Try a Macintosh 47. Ours has well over 6'6" throughout - except for ducking doorways.

It's still on the market. but found similar boats with 70% of the desired cruising equipment for the same price down in FL where the market it more saturated with boats. We decided to let her go as it just didn't feel right for our first boat to sink so much into her and take on such a big project right off the bat.
