Once you have a boat that you could have never afforded or dreamed of owning, once you have made it through the gauntlet, it’s actually kind of nice.

I could not be happier with my boat. It’s my ideal boat. People talk about resale value sometimes when they build a boat. Why? Why would you ever sell the boat? if you pick the right one to build, you will only sell it once you are done boating. That’s why the OP really needs to focus and know what he wants before he builds it. There could be nothing worse than sacrificing all those years of your life for something you don’t really like
So true, wise words.
And if he is thinking it’s cheaper to DIY then buy a comparable build one, the answer is no.
And because the both are budget performance ones and hot tip from me will be the FP Bahia 46, 9.5t lightship and 46ft waterline…keep it light and put a set of hydranet sails on plus a good code 0 on a bowsprit, change props to FFOF folding ones and add winglets to the mini keels.
Ready is your safe performance cat for sub 300k and good to maintain. It’s not called performance cat but it is one and will give you above 200nm etamals safe and fast with lots of space and also sail well in light wind. If you are below 170cm height and your crew too a FP casmarance is even faster.
