2006 GEMINI 105 MC for crossing gulf stream

Hi all
I'm currently getting hours on lake lanier in atlanta ga and about to work on my 104 bareboat chartering cert so I can use the gemini cat at my sailing school.
My plan is to gain experience on some other peoples boat and more courses on the water in the islands.
Here's the question, getting some cash from selling my business with 150K max budget for a boat. At 63 years old with some loss of dexterity in legs from back surgery I was leaning towards a cat for comfort and ease of sailing while spending up to a month or more at a time cruising bahamas. I would be crossing gulf stream from a base in savannah or fla.

I thought after gaining experience I would venture further into the caribbean.

This boat has a extremely shallow draft and has lifting dagger boards and can be beached.

any input on the choice of this boat and other options appreciated.

I've seen tons of Gemini 105s in the Caribbean. It's a great boat for the Bahamas in particular.

Just pick your window to cross the stream and you'll be fine

Despite what many say, the boat can go anywhere. Do your best to avoid upwind....

Be sure to look at as many Gemini's as you can. Even though the boat was constructed basically the same way, the differences between even the same model year are very noticeable. And some of the options were not purchased by all buyers. Check the drive leg for maintenance.

The Gemini can certainly cross the Gulf Stream. So can my dinghy. On a light air day with wind from the SE, the more usual direction, no issue at all. Any amount of weather from the north against the Stream can be life-threatening to much bigger boats.
So the short answer is you wait in Florida for the weather window and have a nice trip across and enjoy the Bahamas, which are the perfect place for a shallow draft cat

Mmmmmm Gemini and bad backs,, NOT a good
combination.
I deliver a lot of Geminis,, in fact I'm half through
a delivery now,, St. Augie to Pt. Rico with one.
I've been on and seen Geminis out in really
crappy weather,, i took one to the Med. and
had winds up to 45kts for 30hrs with no prob
BUT,, LOW BRIDGEDECK and NARROW BEAM
can be hell on bad knee's,, If you already have the
boat,, Always check your forecasts for mild
weather,,, other than that,, good value for money.
Good luck and safe sailing.

I was in Abaco one year on a Dufour 34.... anchored when a Cape Dory Typhoon sailed up to us... and anchored...He had just arrived from Miami. Anything can cross the Gulf Stream when the weather is suitable.

Have at it. Pick a weather window. I would enjoy sailing down the Fla. coast and then cross. Let the stream help not hinder.

We sailed our gem (a 3400) from New York City to Antigua with no issues. Wait weather windows, once south of George Town in the Bahamas the crossings become more challenging, exposed to the Atlantic. Bahamas are great.

BTW our boat is for sale, older than you plan but good value for money. Spend the difference on other things. We lived abroad for 4 years.
