Howdy from Texas

Hanging at Aransas Pass, Texas for the time being.

I picked up a '72 Mariner 40 Ketch last October. She's seaworthy. Floats, Perkins 4-107 runs, both masts and rigging intact. She needs a new mainsail and working on a complete rewire. (It's crazy what kind of wiring wannabe electricians will do.) The only major issue is some soft decking.

The plan is to ultimately sail the world with Australia as the major destination. Will probably try a jib and jigger sail to the keys and back first while waiting on a mainsail.

Hope to find some great info here and meet some of you on my travels.

May your winds be favorable.

Welcome aboard CF, TechnoMonkey.

Your major destination is a great choice (I might be biassed though) .

Get the deck soft spots and wiring sorted and come on down under!

And yes, it is amazing to note what some consider what acceptable practice means when it come to wiring.

Re: Howdy from Texas

I retired from wiring basically. Public service equipment. ISD equipment, Tugs, barges and tankers equipment, etc.. Bad there too. Tugs, barges and tankers think DC is the same as AC, black hot, white ground. I digress. Better keep on topic or I'll get busted on my first outing.

Re: Howdy from Texas

Well, welcome aboard CF. Ann and I set out from SF way back in 1986 and eventually arrived in Oz in 1992... and we've been in and out ever since. The South Pacific islands, including the big ones of Oz and NZ are what we really like as cruising grounds, and so her we are.

Come join us... the locals are friendly (when sober and not discussing the footy).

Re: Howdy from Texas

Welcome to CF, eventually I am planning on sailing down there myself. Went to college over in Corpus, then going to head for the east coast, then Europe
